Perennials and patience

I planted two lots of perennials this week – sweet potatoes and asparagus. We’ll get sweet potatoes in the next six months, but we won’t have asparagus for at least two years.

The sweet potato was planted from vine cuttings, but the asparagus crowns were from Diggers Club. I’ve ordered a mixed bunch of early garlic from them, too. I ‘ll put them in around the perennials, since they’ll only be in for 6 months.

I’m so grateful for the opportunity to plant perennials and wait for them. We had the water tank connected this week, too, so next time it rains we’ll start on our way to a good supply for the garden, and a backup if the mains are switched off.
