Garden pleasures & veggie update

My lettuce seedlings have germinated already -amazing what a few consistent days at 20 degrees plus will do. I gave everything some seaweed tonic yesterday, and sprinkled a little citrus food under the lemon tree, which has set a ton of fruit in the last few weeks. It poured last night, so everything has been well watered in.

The Tiny Tim tomato is going beautifully too, especially after I gave it a big handful of wood ash last week. I’m going to plant some San Marzano, which is a Roma style tomato, on the weekend, but am happy we have a headstart on the cherry toms. The fig tree is covered in ladybugs, including their fabulous, weird babies. Hurrah for warmer weather!

Since we’re moving in less than a month, I’m going to let the veggie box go. It will be easier to eat our way through what we have in the pantry and freezer if I don’t also have to think about what to do with another bunch of kale (Mr B eats it only very grudgingly). It will be easier to prep for the move if we can plan meals around what we already have, and choose the veggies to suit those ingredients. Once the veggie garden gets going at the new house, our need for other fruit & veg will be supplementary rather than central. At least that’s what we’re hoping!
