Being green doesn’t make you a good person

I try to be fairly conscious of what & who I support through my spending (though was recently depressed to learn that Aldi has bad labour practices). Most of the time I focus more on the ‘reduce, re-use, recycle’ side of things than the shopping end of the green/ethical spectrum. I try not to get holier than thou about it, and now I know there are no grounds for doing so, since Canadian psychologists Nina Mazar and Chen-Bo Zhong, have found that ” people who wear what they call the “halo of green consumerism” are less likely to be kind to others, and more likely to cheat and steal.”

I have been chortling ever since reading this article from The Guardian. As one of my colleagues has quipped, never trust a hippie 🙂
