Garden updates – last weekend of summer

The rockmelon was attacked in the big rain, but the vine is flowering again, so we may yet get autumn fruit.

The feral pumpkin vine looks like it’s budding… I’ll be interested to see if we get any fruit starting. We have a couple of new tomato plants coming up, too. If March is hot, they’ll probably fruit, but I won’t hold my breath.

The fennel has come up nicely, the new lettuce is juuuuust starting up, the sweet potato is going nuts, and the jerusalem artichokes are still going strong. The silverbeet is getting pretty tough from the heat – I’m thinking of sowing a new batch of seed for that, and for the salad greens. I have a LOT of self-sown basil coming up, which is nice, too.

I think we’ll get one or two last cucumbers, then it will be time for the snow-peas to take over. They’re coming along, but could do with a good feed.
