Mid December Garden Update

The cucumber is very, very happy on its trellis, as is the cos lettuce coming up under it. I have renegade baby amaranth coming up too, from a plant that went to seed. I find the adult leaves a bit strong, but am happily throwing baby leaves in salads.

The new fruit trees have settled in well, and the principe borghese tomatoes are ripening beautifully. I think we’ll only have one crop, though, as the caterpillar attack seems to have weakened the plants, & they have some kind of wilt.

The box of tommy toes is just starting to flower, though, as is the mystery curcurbit emerging from the compost. I’m not sure whether it’s a pumpkin or melon – I guess I won’t know until it fruits (cross fingers it actually does!).

The big pot with perpetual spinach & golden nugget pumpkin just doesn’t seem very happy, despite getting as much food & water as everything else. Ditto for the warrigal spinach – not sure what’s up there.

We have a new moon tomorrow night, and I’d like to plant some seeds – will need to see what I’ve got at hand. We’re running out of room in the yard, too… but I’m sure an idea will come to me…
