My first ever attempt at making seitan went very well, despite a few hiccups here and there. I made the BBQ Seitan & veggies – the recipe was a bit underseasoned for my taste, but has potential. It also called for browning the potatoes & seitan slices before they went into the slow cooker – frankly, I wouldn’t bother doing that again. Pre-cooking the onion & garlic is worth it for slow cooking – it does enhance the flavour a lot. It just seemed like an extra step for the other ingredients, which come out softened & sauced up at the other end, anyway.

I got 2 kilos of peaches for $4 at Aldi on Friday, & will be converting most of them to peach salsa today. We eat a lot of mexican inspired/ beans & rice type meals, & I think the non-tomato salsa will be a tasty variation.
