Reducing food waste

Wow, this article on food waste in Sydney is a shocker.

We live in the inner west (one of epicentres of cafe food mentioned in the article), but rarely eat out, due to our commitment to saving at the moment. I’m very conscious of not buying more perishable food than we’re planning to eat in a week, though I don’t have a formal menu plan.

I compost my scraps in a bokashi bin, & generally eat leftovers the next day, or freeze them to use in another dish. But at least once a fortnight I throw out something that is genuinely ‘wasted’. It used to be salad greens, but now I grow my own. Sometimes, though, I still forget a cucumber & end up with slime, despite good intentions… very frustrating.
